So today I was lucky enough to go to Riverside School in Port Coquitlam and give Diversity Project presentations to five different classrooms. It's been over a year since I've done anything of this sort so I was super nervous this morning when I woke up and knew that from 9am-3pm I was going to be in front of a bunch of high school students and trying to keep their attention. Not an easy task. I like to keep my presentations less about "telling" them they shouldn't bully and more teaching them ways of being so that it's more natural for them not to bully as a person over all. I think it had a really great effect on the students. At the end of ever presentation we asked what the students would take away with them and quite a few of them had profound realizations. So now that it's done I feel slightly drained of energy but mostly excited and happy that I managed to bust out of my box yet again and step out of my comfort zone and do something that had a positive effect on other people. Since summer is upon us I don't think I will be doing any more presentations any time soon but it definitely opened the door for next year and putting together and even better presentation. A lot of what we talked about revolved around dreams and having a drive and desire in your life to succeed. I really enjoy empowering others to go after their dreams and make them happen. If everyone grew up in a world where they were told every day that they COULD achieve their dreams this world would look like a very different place. I want you to remember, just like I reminded all those students, that your dreams are achievable and that you should do everything in your power to reach them no matter how long it takes! You know why? because the time is going to pass anyway so you might as well be working towards your goal little by little. Have a fantastic rest of your day and put a smile on that face!
With Gratitude,
Calan
